Churchill Parish Council consists of the villages of Churchill and Langford. There are 13 Parish Councillors, either elected on a four-yearly basis or co-opted when a vacancy occurs.
Two local Government councils serve residents in Churchill and Langford. We are a ‘parish’ council and North Somerset which is a Unitary District Council.
The Parish Council employs a Parish Clerk, a Responsible Financial Officer and a Parish Orderly. These posts are part-time. There is no Parish office and the Clerk works from home.
We are responsible for the upkeep and improvements of:
- All the recreation fields and the two play areas - the younger children's play area and the skateboard park. Including planting flower bulbs and flower beds
- Bus shelters
- The clock tower (including winding the clock up)
- The oak tree enclosure
- The Burial Ground - We sets the fees for burial ground interments, headstones and cremation tablets annually
- Dog waste bins
- War memorial
- Phone Book box
- The Hands Sculpture at the Crossroads
- Noticeboards
We are also responsible for the popular allotments fields, which currently have a waiting list for allotment space.
We also take care of the Churchill Community Clubhouse and the Cricket Club building.
A few words from the Chair, Councillor Jackie Bush
Welcome to Churchill Parish Council. I have served as a Councillor for the Parish since 1997. I was proud to be elected as Chair at the AGM in May 2021. I grew up in the area and went to the local schools. I am married with five children and have been a foster carer for 20 years. As well as serving on the council I am also a governor of Churchill Primary School. Both of these positions require energy and motivation but allow me to be an active part of this community.
